Margot Robbie and Charli xcx Reveal Their Picks for Greatest Rapper of All Time

In an interview with Complex, award-winning actress Margot Robbie and pop singer Charli XCX shared their picks for the greatest rappers of all time. For both of them, their answers were hesitation-free.

Charli XCX has collaborated with many rappers for her 2024 iconic album BRAT. She worked with Yung Lean, bb trickz, Shygirl, and more.

Despite working closely with those rappers, none of them ended up being her pick. Even with those connections, her choice went in a completely different direction. Charli XCX quickly named American rapper Young Thug as the greatest rapper of all time

Young Thug’s eccentric vocal style captured the hearts of rap fans. Based on Carlie XCX’s pick, he seems to have impressed other popular mainstream artists as well. Young Thug popularizes the use of โ€˜mumble rap,โ€™ a rap subgenre defined by its slurred, hardโ€‘toโ€‘decipher vocals. Critics often dismiss mumble rap for being formulaic. However, Young Thug inspires new generations to rethink the style and view it in a different light.

Young Thug’s single “Stoner” was the first to receive mainstream recognition, paving the way for his musical career. He has gone on to make guest appearances with famous artists like Camila Cabello and David Glover. Glover’s “This is America” won a Grammy Award for Record Of The Year in 2019. Young Thug’s contribution to the song earned him the Grammy, too.

Robbie chose a more well-known artist, claiming American rapper Lil Wayne as her greatest rapper of all time. Lil Wayne signed with Cash Money Records when he was only about 12 years old, launching his lifelong career.

Lil Wayne, formally known as Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., has made many hits over the span of his almost 40-year career. People regard him as one of the most influential hipโ€‘hop artists of his generation. Additionally, many artists openly credit him as one of the greatest rappers of all time, and that recognition extends far beyond Robbie.

Lil Wayne’s debut studio album Tha Block Is Hot, was a breakthrough for his solo career. He went on to make over ten more studio albums, becoming one of the worlds best selling artists. He has won almost 30 musical awards spanning multiple categories. Lil Wayne became the first male artist to surpass Elvis Presley with the most entries on the Billboard Hot 100.
