Millennial dreams are coming true in 2026. Nostalgia is being fulfilled with the return of one of the biggest stars of the Disney Channel. Miley Cyrus will perform as her iconic rockstar alter ego character, Hannah Montana. This marks the first time Cyrus will perform as Hannah Montana in 15 years, since the end of the TV show. A new special will be available for streaming on Disney+ on March 24, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Hannah Montana. The series aired on March 24, 2006, exactly 20 years before the new special airs.
A trailer for the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special was posted to X by Miley Cyrus. “Happy Hannah-versary!” declared Cyrus. In the trailer, you see Miley Cyrus in the iconic Hannah Montana wig on a recreation of the TV show’s set. Cyrus states, “This anniversary is for them, it’s for us. This feels like home to me.” The special will include never-before-seen footage and exclusive interviews.
Miley Cyrus First Appeared as Hannah Montana at 13 Years Old
In 2005, Cyrus was cast in Hannah Montana at only 12. She was 13 when they filmed the show’s pilot. Her father, famous country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, co-starred on the show playing her father. Billy Ray Cyrus is best known for his 1992 hit “Achy Breaky Heart,” which topped the US Hot Country Singles chart. Following the show’s premiere in March 2006, it became a massive success. The show featured Miley Cyrus playing Miley Stewart, a seemingly typical teenage girl with a huge secret. She’s secretly a superstar named Hannah Montana. Throughout the majority of the show, the only people to know her secret are her best friend Lily, played by Emily Osment, and her family. Actor James Earles played Hannah Montana’s brother.
The show saw many guest appearances, including Dolly Parton as Miley’s godmother. Truly, Parton is Miley Cyrus’s godmother in real life, not just on the show. This introduced the legendary country singer to a new generation of listeners.
Many songs from the show and eventual movie charted on the Billboard charts. The show’s soundtracks Hannah Montana, Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus, and Hannah Montana: The Movie all reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
