New American Football Track “No Feeling” Features Brendan Yates of Turnstile

Midwest emo legends American Football have released two songs from their upcoming self-titled fourth album. The new album is expected for release on May 1, titled LP4. All of American Football’s albums have been self-titled, and are often labeled in LP order. This will be the band’s first album release in seven years. On February 25, “Bad Moons” was the first single from the new album that was released. On April 8, a second single titled “No Feeling” was released along with a music video. It features Brendan Yates from the Grammy Award-winning hardcore punk band Turnstile.

In a statement released through Consequence of Sound, lead singer Mike Kinsella discussed the collaboration with Yates.

โ€œBrendan came into the studio to sing along to a โ€˜gang vocalโ€™ call-and-response part Iโ€™d written for the chorus of โ€˜No Feeling.” I had imagined his voice would be one of many voices scream-singing it, and was excited for it to be a sort of Easter Egg on the album.” Kinsella went on to say, “But after tracking the original parts, he asked if he could try a higher harmony that he was hearing. As soon as he started singing it, all of our jaws dropped, and we all were looking at each other like, โ€˜Oh shit!ย That’s the dude from Turnstile!โ€™ His voice is so singular, and once he sang the part inย hisย range, it was clear that the part now belonged to him and him alone.โ€

American Football Will Embark on a Tour With Donations Going to Immigration Rights

The band will set out on tour to promote their new release, kicking off in Denver, Colorado, on May 15. With each ticket sold, the band will donate $1 to Safe Passage International and The Illinois Coalition for Immigration & Refugee Rights.

American Football is a midwestern emo band that formed in Urbana, Illinois. Their original run was from 1997 to 2000, with the release of their debut self-titled album in 1999. At first, the album didn’t sell well, and the band soon disbanded. But with the growing popularity of emo music in the 2000’s, American Football gained a cult following.

As a result, the band returned for a second self-titled album in 2016, titled LP2. A third album, LP3, was released in 2019, and a fourth is on the way this spring. The cover photo of their 1999 self-titled album features a house in Urbana, IL. The house is often visited by fans from all over the world. It has become one of the most identifiable album covers in emo music.
