Before there was Queens Of The Stone Age, there was Kyuss. Kyuss was a stoner rock band in the early 1990s. Josh Homme created Queens Of The Stone Age following the breakup of Kyuss and brought along bass guitarist/vocalist Nick Oliveri to join his new group in 1998. Oliveri was with the band during the height of their popularity. Queens Of The Stone Age broke out in 2000 with the release of Rated R, the band’s second album. They followed up this release with an even bigger release. In 2002, Queens Of The Stone Age released Songs For The Deaf, which also featured Dave Grohl on drums. Songs For The Deaf contained three successful singles, “No One Knows,” “Go With The Flow,” and “First It Giveth.” Shortly after, Nick Oliveri was dismissed from the group.
Nick Oliveri contributed backing vocals on “If I Had A Tail” on the 2013 album …Like Clockwork. This was his first collaboration with the group since his dismissal. He performed the song with the group at a concert in Portland, Oregon, in 2014.
Currently, Queens Of The Stone Age is on their Catacombs Tour. On April 24, the band performed at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center in Joshua Tree, California. Fans were happily surprised when Josh Homme invited Nick Oliveri on stage. Together, they performed the song “Auto Pilot” from the Rated R album. Oliveri only contributed vocals during their performance, no bass guitar.
Queens Of The Stone Age Will Join Foo Fighters on North American Stadium Tour
Dave Grohl will soon team up with Queens Of The Stone Age once again. Queens Of The Stone Age will join Foo Fighters on a North American Stadium Tour, starting in August. They are currently wrapping up the Catacombs Tour, before a UK/European Tour starting in June. Following the UK/European tour, Queens Of The Stone Age teams up with Foo Fighters, who are currently supporting a new album.
Foo Fighters released Your Favorite Toy on April 24, produced by Rick Rubin. Though the release is new, it’s expected to debut at the top of the Billboard 200. Dave Grohl pairing up with his old friends for a stadium tour is the perfect promotion for their newest release.
