The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has shared the nominees for this year’s induction ceremony.
The nominees include Mariah Carey, Phil Collins, Lauryn Hill, Oasis, Pink, the Black Crowes, Jeff Buckley, Melissa Etheridge, Billy Idol, INXS, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, New Edition, Sade, Shakira, Luther Vandross, and the Wu-Tang Clan.
Seven of those artists have been nominated before, while the remaining 10 are making their debut on the ballot. Iron Maiden, Oasis, and Joy Division/New Order have each already been nominated three times, while Black Crowes, Billy Idol, and Sade have each been nominated twice.
“This diverse list of talented nominees recognizes the ever-evolving faces and sounds of Rock and Roll and its continued impact on youth culture,” John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a statement. “Induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is musicโs highest honor and we look forward to celebrating the Class of 2026 this Fall.”
Although this is Collins’ first nomination as a solo artist, he is already in the Hall of Fame as a member of prog-rock band Genesis. If he were to be inducted, he would become the 29th artist to be inducted at least two times.
Artists are eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first commercial recording.
Fans can vote for which artists they’d like to see make the cut on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame website or in person at kiosks located at the museum in Cleveland, but the final decision will be made by a group of over 1,200 artists, journalists, historians, and industry professionals. The panel will vote based on musicians’ impact on music culture, influence on other musicians, and the longevity of their careers.
The final list of inductees will be announced in April, along with the recipients of the Musical Influence Award, Musical Excellence Award, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non Performer Award, which are chosen by separate committees. The induction ceremony will take place in the fall.
Last year’s inductees included Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes.
