Sabrina Carpenter and Stevie Nicks Duet at Met Gala

Pop star Sabrina Carpenter and rock legend Stevie Nicks shared the stage at the Met Gala on Monday night for a performance of Fleetwood Mac’s 1975 hit “Landslide.”

In the museum’s Egyptian wing at the Temple of Dendur and with the backing of by a four-piece band and a quintet orchestra, Carpenter performed “House Tour,” plus her hits “Espressoโ€ and โ€œPlease, Please, Please,” before bringing Nicks onstage as a surprise. Nicks performed Fleetwood Mac’s hit “Gypsyโ€ and her solo hit “Edge of Seventeen,” then brought Carpenter back onstage and held her hand for their duet of “Landslide.” The song was written by Nicks and first appeared on Fleetwood Mac’s self-titled album, and it’s become one of Nicks’ signature songs. The two also shared vocals on another Fleetwood Mac hit, โ€œDonโ€™t Stop,” backed by a 12-person choir.

The evening marked Nicks’ first time attending the Gala. Her outfit, by John Galliano for Zara, perfectly captured her witchy vibe and was a one-of-a-kind piece designed specifically for her. She completed the look with a top hat by milliner Stephen Jones, who has designed similar pieces for Nicks in the past.

Carpenter arrived at the event wearing a dress made entirely of film from the movie Sabrina. The dress was designed by Jonathan Anderson. This year’s theme was “Costume Art,” with a dress code of “Fashion Is Art.”

The performance wasn’t Carpenter’s first duet with a music icon in recent weeks. During her headlining performance at Coachella, she brought Madonna onstage to perform their new collaboration, “Bring Your Love,” from Madonna’s new album, Confessions II.

As for Nicks, she recently marked the 25th anniversary of her album Trouble in Shangri-La. Fans have been speculating she’ll be featured on Beyoncรฉ’s next album, Act III, which is rumored to have a more rock-leaning sound. Nicks previously worked with Beyoncรฉ as part of the Destiny’s Child video for “Bootylicious,” which sampled “Edge of Seventeen.”

Nicks has also hinted she may be working on a new album. “I have seven songs, and they are autobiographical real stories where I’m not pulling any punches for probably the first time in my life,” she said last year. She hasn’t shared any additional information since, however.
