Shelved 2008 Slipknot Album Finally Scheduled for Release

After nearly 20 years, Slipknot fans will finally get to hear their lost album.

Look Outside Your Window, which was recorded in 2008 as part of the sessions for their fourth album, All Hope Is Gone, is scheduled for release as a Record Store Day exclusive. Slipknot won’t be listed as the musician, howeverโ€”the band will also be listed as Look Outside Your Window.

The release is described in detail on the Record Store Day website.

“Look Outside Your Window is Corey Taylor, Jim Root, Sid Wilson, and Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan, who in the downtime during recording sessions for Slipknot’s 2008 album All Hope Is Gone, began to freely create songs for themselves, exploring new directions with no outside expectations,” the site reads. “Over the years, the existence of this project has seen coverage in outlets including Vice, Revolver, NME, Kerrang!, and countless others, and the fans have only grown louder in their demand to hear this album.”

What Can We Expect From the Album?

Look Outside Your Window is said to have a more “Radiohead-esque” experimental and melodic rock sound than the band’s other releases, which is why it has never been released until nowโ€”with the exception of the track “‘Til We Die,” which was released as a bonus track on the special edition of All Hope Is Gone.

“We knew we were heading down a different creative path, entirely apart from Slipknot, and we followed it eagerly,” the band wrote in a post on the Knotfest website. “We called the project Look Outside Your Window as a tribute to this experimental spirit.”

They continued, “Created during a chaotic time in our shared history, the songs were born late at night, in a house on a farm in the middle of nowhere. Peering out through a big picture window, we wondered about what, or who, might be lurking outside. That sense of the unknown seeped into the music itself.”

Demand for Look Outside Your Window has only increased over the years, and there have been multiple stalled plans to release it over the years, dating back to 2019. Most recently, in 2024, Crahan shared the band and their management had a plan. The album will be pressed on 12-inch splatter vinyl and will be limited to 2,300 copies.

Record Store Day, held every year, will take place on April 18 and will include plenty of exclusive releases from other artists.
