Los Angeles police identified the suspect who fired a gun at singer Rihanna and rapper A$AP Rocky’s home in Los Angeles.
One 35-year-old Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, from Orlando, fired between seven and 10 rounds from an AR-15-style rifle at the residence around 1:15 p.m., according to police. At least four rounds struck the home, one of which penetrated a wall. Ortiz fired the shots from her car across the street, then fled the scene. Police followed her to the Sherman Oaks Galleria shopping center several miles away, about 30 minutes after the shooting, where she was arrested “without incident.”
“When they pulled the suspect over and took her into custody, they searched the vehicle and located an assault rifle and seven casings,” LAPD spokesperson Armen Arias told the Los Angeles Times.
Ortix is now in police custody and has been charged with attempted murder, with bail set at $10,225,000. According to LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell, the bail is so high because a total of 10 people were in the residence at the time, but none have been officially identified. Unconfirmed reports indicate the couple was home with their three children at the time. No one was injured.
“I was a little shocked,” neighbor Isabel Thorne told reporters on Sunday. “We don’t hear that kind of thing in this neighborhood. It’s pretty quiet. I just heard one shot. It was really loud. Everything in this valley echoes. Even when someone has a party, when there’s music.”
No motive is known at this time, and the incident is still under investigation. Although it’s unclear who was the intended target, posts on Ortiz’s social media accounts include videos of her talking about Rihanna, including one asking the singer to “say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you’re talking to me where I’m not at.” The LAPD has indicated those posts will be part of their investigation.
Ortiz also has a history of prior arrests, including a 2023 arrest for domestic violence and battery.
This also isn’t the first incident at Rihanna’s home. In 2018, a man jumped the fence and broke in.
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have not commented on the incident.
