Billboard‘s Alternative Airplay Chart dates back to September 1988. Since then, Red Hot Chili Peppers have achieved 15 No. 1 hits on the chart. Linkin Park has held the second-most No. 1 hits with 14, and now they are joined by Twenty One Pilots in the second position. The song “Drag Path” was released on a limited-time issue of their 2025 album Breach. This special edition was available the first week of the album’s sale, and a purchase was required to obtain the track. “Drag Path” was officially released as a single on February 17, 2026. The track now tops the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart for the week of May 2, 2026. With the success of the single, Twenty One Pilots officially tie Linkin Park for the second-most No. 1 hits on the chart.
Twenty One Pilots released their eighth studio album, Breach, on September 12, 2025. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It marked their biggest sales week ever and the largest for a rock group since 2019. The band earned their first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 since Blurryface in 2015. Additionally, Breach topped the Billboard Top Rock & Alternative Albums Chart. It was the band’s fifth album to reach the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. Breach also achieved the largest vinyl sales week for a rock album since 1991.
The “Drag Path” Music Video Features Stop-Motion Animation
To honor the fans who bought the limited-time release, the single version of “Drag Path” is different from the previously released album version. The official single is a shortened, edited version. It keeps the original as a special treat for early buyers of the album. A music video was released, containing stop-motion animation along with the new single version of the track. The animated video was directed by Tobias Gundorff and was released on the same day as the single, February 17.
On February 21, Twenty One Pilots headlined the Innings Festival in Tempe, Arizona. At the festival, the band performed “Drag Path” live for the first time. Additionally, the band performed a cover of “Heathens” by David Bowie. They also performed their version of “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes. Twenty One Pilots previously honored The White Stripes in their induction ceremony to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2025.
