Willie Nelson Recorded His Verse on Kacey Musgraves’ New Song “Uncertain, TX” in One Take

On May 1, 2026, Kacey Musgraves will release her seventh studio album titled Middle Of Nowhere. Ahead of the new album, two singles have been released. “Dry Spell” was released on March 11, and “Middle Of Nowhere” was released on April 17. Musgraves brought along long-time collaborators for the new album, including Luke Laird, Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne, Daniel Tashian, and Brandy Clark. Clark contributed to Musgraves’ first major label release. Additionally, Musgraves worked with Ian Fitchuk, with whom she had previously collaborated on her 2018 album Golden Hour.

Special guests on the new album include Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert, Billy Strings, and Gregory Alan Isakov. Willie Nelson takes a verse on the unreleased track “Uncertain, TX,” as both Musgraves and Nelson are from Texas. This is Musgraves’ third collaboration with the country legend. Nelson was previously featured on a hidden track on Pageant Material in 2015. On her 2016 Christmas album titled A Very Kacey Christmas, Nelson is featured on the track titled “A Willie Nice Christmas.” In 2019, Nelson and Musgraves teamed up for a performance of “Rainbow Connection” at the CMA Awards.

Musgraves Spoke on the New Collaboration With Willie Nelson in a Recent Interview

Kacey Musgraves recently did an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music. On the newest duet, Musgraves said, “Anytime I can have everyone’s favorite gangster great-grandpa on anything…I mean, I love him so much. He’s the patriarch of true country music. He can bring so many different kinds of people together, which is one thing I really love about him. He’s just incredible. I feel very lucky, this is our third collaboration together.”

Lowe asked about how Willie Nelson is known as a one-take guy in his old age, to which Musgraves stated, “He walks in, does the take, and literally that’s it. So it better work. He’s like ‘I’m in my 90s… I’m giving you 30 seconds, and then I’m out.’” Musgraves went on to say, “I get it. He has earned that. He’s a true American legend, transcends space and time. He’s amazing.”

On May 29, 2026, the country legend Willie Nelson will release his 79th studio album, Dream Chaser. It’ll be his 156th release overall, making him one of the most prolific artists in history. Nelson is 92 years old but still continues to grow as an artist while collaborating with younger generations.
