The Wallflowers Announce 30th Anniversary Tour for ‘Bringing Down The Horse’

Bringing Down The Horse was the second album by The Wallflowers, released on May 21, 1996. It featured the hit singles “One Headlight,” “6th Avenue Heartache,” “The Difference,” and “Three Marlenas.” The album reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200, becoming The Wallflowers best-selling album. Previously, the group had taken multiple breaks throughout the years, touring consistently again since 2013. Dylan is the son of Bob Dylan, the youngest of his children with his first wife. Jakob Dylan has certainly made his own way in the music industry with a successful 37-year career with The Wallflowers.

The group earned two Grammy Awards in 1998 for “One Headlight” in the categories of Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group and Best Rock Song. Commercially, the song was a massive hit for the group. It topped the Billboard Modern Rock, Mainstream Rock, and Adult Alternative charts simultaneously. “The Difference” was also nominated for Best Rock Song in 1998. Previously, “6th Avenue Heartache” was nominated for Best Rock Performance in 1997.

“One Headlight” followed “Sixth Avenue Heartache” as the second promotional single from the group’s second album, Bringing Down The Horse. These songs weren’t sold as singles in America, so they weren’t eligible for the Hot 100 (Billboard changed this rule a few years later), but they both got lots of airplay and made The Wallflowers a big name. It was redemption for the band, whose first (self-titled) album was released on Virgin Records in 1992 and stiffed. Virgin tried to use the Bob Dylan connection to promote it, which didn’t sit well with Jakob, and the band left the label. They landed on Interscope, which was a much better fit. With T Bone Burnett (who used to back Bob Dylan on guitar) producing, everything clicked.
