Songfacts®:

  • Listen to country music and you'll hear about all the problems alcohol can cause, but for Aaron Lee Tasjan, drinking is no trouble at all. It's only a problem when he runs low on cash.

The song is sincere: Tasjan did a lot of drinking around this time. His favorite haunt was 11th Street Bar in New York City, which he wrote a song about on his next album called "12 Bar Blues."
  • In The Blazes is Tasjan's first album, but he had done the rounds as a musician, with a stint in the New York Dolls and some work for Sean Lennon. He came to Nashville in 2015 to join a band on guitar, but the group folded right away. He ended up landing solo deal with New West Records that year and recorded the album with producer Eli Thomson.
