Songfacts®:

  • Aerosmith close Music From Another Dimension!, their first album of new material in 11 years, with this bittersweet lament. Frontman Stephen Tyler penned the song with hitmaker Desmond Child, whose previous collaborations with the band include "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)," "What It Takes" and "Crazy."
  • The song finds Tyler wailing and weeping at the end of a relationship. "Every time the band fights, it happens," said the frontman to Rolling Stone of the tune's sentiment. "It's about a guy who loves a girl so much. Is it a hello or another last goodbye? It's something I've been working on for awhile."
  • Tyler told Rolling Stone he had Otis Redding's "Try A Little Tenderness" in the back of his mind, when penning the lyrics.
