  • "Looks Like The End of The Road" opens Arcadia, the long-awaited 2025 reunion album from Alison Krauss & Union Station - and if it sounds like the end, it was actually the beginning.

Released on January 29, 2025 ahead of Arcadia, "Looks Like The End of The Road" was the first new song heard from the band since their 2011 Paper Airplane album. In that time, the members went off and did what musicians often do: solo projects, session gigs etc., but the chemistry that made them bluegrass royalty never really fizzled - it just waited.

"I don't think we ever thought we were finished," dobro and lap steel player Jerry Douglas told Uncut magazine. "We went our separate ways after Paper Airplane in 2011, but we all kind of hoped we'd circle back. Alison brought it up: 'If you guys want to do this again...'"

    Cue a very polite stampede.
  • The reunion brought in a new voice, Russell Moore (from IIIrd Tyme Out fame), who joined longtime bandmates Ron Block, Jerry Douglas, and Barry Bales. Krauss, as always, was at the helm on fiddle and lead vocals.
  • "Looks Like The End of The Road" was the spark that lit Arcadia. The song came from Mississippi-born, Nashville-based songwriter Jeremy Lister. Krauss first heard it during the pandemic and, as she told The Sun, "Within the first half of the first verse, I thought, 'Oh my God! That sounds like the start of our album.'"

It wasn't so much inspiration as a gentle musical ambush.
  • "Looks Like The End of The Road" is a slow-burning, haunted waltz of regret and resignation, delivered in Krauss's signature ethereal vocal style. It's a song about bad choices and the realization there's no way back from the decisions that have been made. Douglas' steel guitar weaves through the arrangement like a second voice - equal parts mournful and merciful.

"I wrote the guys and said, 'Hey, I think we're ready to roll,'" Douglas recalled.

From that first spark, the band stitched together Arcadia - 10 songs, all self-produced, many centered on memory, distance, and cautious renewal.
  • Fittingly, the album begins and ends with songs by Lister. "Looks Like The End of The Road," despite its title, is, as Krauss puts it, "very much a beginning." The final track, "There's A Light Up Ahead," closes the circle with hope.

  • Jerrytrckmn from RichmondI've only really listened to 2 songs on Ardadia, but I'm pacing myself. Their first AKUS collabration in 14 years, but it certainly worth the wait. The two songs? 'Looks Like the End of the Road' and 'Richmond on the James'. I have them on loop playing in my head all day. Russell Moore is filling some big shoes for Dan Tyminski but he is doing it so well. Allison's harmonies on these 2 songs with Russell are so beautiful. I can't wait to hear the other songs....
