  • Here, Anne Marie expresses her unwavering devotion to an unhealthy relationship, drawing parallels to harmful elements like cigarettes, hangovers, and drugs. She acknowledges the toxicity but asserts that she will always stand by her lover's side, even if it means facing potential harm. Despite others' attempts to intervene and persuade her otherwise, she remains resolute, emphasizing that nobody can come between them, as he will always hold a special place in her heart.
  • Anne-Marie co-wrote "Unhealthy" with songwriter Joel "Castle" Castillo and producers Connor and Riley McDonough. "I went into the session and I said, I can't get the word 'Unhealthy' out of my head and I can see myself on the front cover eating burgers and the grease dripping down on I was just going for it," Anne Marie told BBC Radio 1's Clara Amfo.

Castle and the McDonough brothers previously teamed up to co-pen Joji's "Glimpse Of Us" and Mimi Webb's "Red Flags."
  • Shania Twain joins Anne-Marie on the track. The pair hooked up in the studio in March 2023 after Anne-Marie slipped into the Canadian's DMs.

Anne-Marie is a big fan of country music and its captivating melodies, so she was looking to explore the genre through her songwriting. She realized that her existing repertoire didn't quite align with Shania's aspirations, but after penning "Unhealthy," that changed.

She sent the song to Shania, unsure of what the response would be. To her delight, Shania loved it and wasted no time extending an invitation for Anne-Marie to join her in the studio the following day.
  • Determined to seize the opportunity, Anne-Marie rushed to the studio, where they recorded the track together. It was an exhilarating experience, especially considering it occurred on Shania's final day in the UK before departing.

Shania greeted her with her signature enthusiasm, jumping up and down with excitement. Anne-Marie felt an instant sense of comfort.

The English singer marveled at the Canadian star's warm and kind demeanor, combined with her exceptional talent. When Shania effortlessly picked up a guitar and added beautiful harmonies to their collaboration, she couldn't believe it was happening.
  • "Unhealthy" is the title track of Anne-Marie's third studio album. She released it as the record's fourth single on May 18, 2023.
  • Anne-Marie took an 8,000-mile round-trip to the US to shoot scenes for the video with Shania Twain but ended up doing her own parts back in Britain.

"I went there to film some bits with her but, weirdly, Nashville don't have any Western sets, they just have fields," she explained to The Sun. "So I was like, I can't do a whole Western video in a field dressed as cowgirls, it didn't make sense to me. So, we found this set in Kent which is a whole town in some woman's back garden."
