Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from Return of the Tender Lover, this finds Babyface urging people to stay connected on a global scale through love and compassion.

As one of the first songs recorded, "We've Got Love" also doubled as the springboard for the entire project. "The whole album is obviously based around love, which I've always done," said Babyface. "But I think the positive sense about love has been missing for a minute - at least in terms of it feeling good. That's why we led with this single. It's not just a guy/girl song. It's a song that works for everyone."
  • Babyface wanted the song to have a positive feel beyond the lyrics. "The groove is a really important thing," he told Entertainment Weekly. "Just being able to get into a song that you don't even have to sing, you can just groove with it for awhile."
