Songfacts®:

  • In this low-fi jam, Beastie Boys string together lots of random rhymes and let us know they're going to rock it non-stop. What's more interesting is the title, which doesn't show up in the lyric and has nothing to do with the song.

Tadlock owned and drove the bus for their first headlining tour in 1987. He was quite a character and had lots of stories, many about how he used to drive for Elvis Presley's backing band. Tadlock told a story about how at the end of one tour, Elvis gathered everyone in his crew and gave them all a pair of golden sunglasses as a gift... except Tadlock. It turned out to be a prank. Elvis was just messing with Tadlock and gave him the eyewear along with a big hug. The Beastie Boys remembered the story and got Tadlock and his beloved glasses into this song title.
  • "Tadlock's Glasses" was going to be the album title, but they ended up going with Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. Two. Their eighth album, it was also their last, as group member MCA (Adam Yauch) died the following year.
