Songfacts®:

  • "Outside Of Love" finds Becky Hill feeling frustrated and isolated in a relationship. She yearns for a connection but wonders whether their romance has run its course. The song maintains a hopeful and danceable vibe despite the sad lyrics.
  • Becky Hill wrote the song with Mike Kintish (Jojo's "Reckless," Ella Henderson's "Everything I Didn't Say") and English drum and bass singer-songwriter Charlotte Haining.

Hill and Haining are longtime collaborators. Their previous efforts include the Only Honest on the Weekend tracks "Perfect People" and "My Heart Goes (La Di Da)."
  • Brothers Marco and Giampaolo Parisi produced this anthemic dance ballad. The Italian production duo have also worked with Ed Sheeran ("Afterglow"), and Fred again ("Adore U").
  • Director Michael Holyk shot the music video in Slovenia. Holyk's previous visual collaborations with Hill include "Better Off Without You," "Sunrise in the East," "I Could Get Used to This" and "Run."
  • "Outside of Love" is the fourth single released from Believe Me Now? Speaking to NME about the album, Becky Hill revealed a conscious effort to move beyond the "girl next door" image that had previously defined her public persona.

"I was desperately trying to hang on to that because I didn't want anyone to think I was too special or up my own ass," she explained. "I didn't want people asking, 'Who the f--k is Becky Hill?' but I've become this person that knows exactly who she is. I don't need to downplay myself or my abilities because I finally believe in myself."
  • Lyrically, much of Believe Me Now? tackles loneliness. "It's not something I set out to do but the overarching theme of the album is about trying to fill this void of feeling so isolated," Hill told NME. "I wonder how much of that has to do with the pandemic, how much has come from loneliness within and how much of it is me missing family, friends and my partner because I've been working so hard?"
