Songfacts®:

  • This introspective song exploring the journey of life marks the first and last time Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi sang backing vocals. In Iommi's book Iron Man: My Journey through Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath, he explained that whenever he sang, bassist Geezer Butler couldn't keep a straight face.
  • The song is part of the 1978 Black Sabbath album Never Say Die!, their last studio album with original lead singer Ozzy Osbourne until 2013. Despite the optimistic album title, Ozzy was excised from the band in 1979 as his addictions impaired him. Sabbath replaced him with Ronnie James Dio and entered a new era (a key distinction: Dio wrote lyrics, Ozzy didn't). Meanwhile, Osbourne launched an improbably successful solo career, enlisting the young guitar phenom Randy Rhoads and releasing classic tracks like "Crazy Train" and "Flying High Again."

  • Jon from Billings, MtThe outtro lyrics are quite incorrect. I may be wrong in what I hear, but not as wrong as what's above. I hear:

    Forget all your sorrows
    Don't love in the past
    But look to the future
Coz life goes too fast, you know
