Songfacts®:

  • After writing this song, five years went by before Adams released it himself. In the US, a version by Ian Lloyd was released in 1980 on an album called 3WC (Third Wave Civilization). Adams told us: "I wrote it when I was 18 and it was one of the first complete songs I'd ever written. I'd been living in Vancouver and teaching myself piano and this came out. Sometime after I had written the song, my friend Bruce Fairbairn was producing an album for an artist called Ian Lloyd, and wanted the song for him. the song went on to be recorded by many people including Bonnie Tyler (on her blockbuster album Faster Than the Speed of Night), and I didn't actually record "Straight From The Heart" until 1983 for my Cuts Like A Knife album. It was my first Top 10 record." (Check out our interview with Bryan Adams.)

  • Ian from Vancouver, BcLocal Vancouver singer/songwriter Eric Kagna actually wrote this song, was able to demo it for Bryan, and eventually agreed to share songwriting credits with him. Its disturbing to read that Bryan seems to take credit for the song. I believe Bryan's contribution was the instrumental bridge (which he does not seem to play live anymore). Eric would never utter a bad word about Bryan, as he owes him for the success of his song. Eric has since passed away.
  • Krista from Carbondale, PaBryan Adams is such a great songwriter and musician and this song is one of his best!
  • Michael from San Diego, Ca"You know I'll never go, as long as I know,
it's coming straight from the heart!" - beautiful love song that has always been one of my favorites!
