Songfacts®:

  • Here, Calvin Harris teams up with Sam Smith for a dance banger. Over Harris' thundering trance beat and stuttering synth lines, Smith yearns for their love interest.

    You are my desire
And just the thought of you is keepin' me awake
    You take me higher
    Take me away

Smith wants their beloved to hold them and not let go.
  • The song is the third collaboration between the pair. It follows Harris' 2018 UK #1 single "Promises" and Smith's 2023 Gloria track, "I'm Not Here To Make Friends."
  • Harris and Smith co-wrote "Desire" with Burns and Sam "Romans" Roman. British songwriter and producer Burns contributed to seven tracks on Lady Gaga's 2020 Chromatica album, including the singles "Rain On Me" and "Sour Candy." English songwriter Romans has also worked with the likes of Demi Lovato ("Sober"), Ed Sheeran ("The Joker And The Queen") and Labrinth ("Never Felt So Alone").
  • Burns also helped Harris produce the upbeat track. "Desire" sees Harris further exploring his trance sound, following his successful collaboration with Ellie Goulding on "Miracle."
  • Harris first previewed "Desire" during his summer 2023 residency at Ushuaïa Ibiza.
  • The song's music video follows Harris and Smith as they drag race sports cars.
