Songfacts®:

  • This haunting, bluesy number finds Carrie Underwood getting over heartbreak by throwing a party for one.

The records are spinnin' and the speakers are smokin'
There ain't no last call, I'm havin' a ball with Hank Haggard and Jones

Underwood is having a great time with some of her favorite country legends, who are there in spirit.
  • Carrie Underwood told American Songwriter that on her Cry Pretty album she shows people dealing with lost love in diverse ways. While on "Drinking Alone," the lady is "hanging out, drinking, trying to feel better," in "Ghosts On The Stereo," she deals with her heartbreak differently.

"The person's at home, 'not needing nobody,' getting drunk by herself, kind of listening and lost in this moment, the music," Underwood explained. "But it's very specific to this person's kind of breakdown."
  • Regular Carrie Underwood collaborator Hillary Lindsey penned the song along with Andrew Dorff (Hunter Hayes' "Somebody's Heartbreak") and Tom Douglas (Carrie Underwood's "Forever Changed").
