Songfacts®:

  • Danesh wrote this song about his father, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer but fought it into remission.

Darius was the eldest of three sons of a Scottish mother, Avril (nee Campbell), a GP, and an Iranian father, Booth Danesh. He was close to both parents and worried when his gastroenterologist father fell ill with cancer. In 2003, the medics gave Dr. Danesh just three months to live after his stage 4 lymphoma spread to his bone marrow. After treatment with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Darius' dad made a miraculous recovery.
  • Darius titled his second and final album after this song. A commercial disappointment after his successful debut LP Dive In, Live Twice reached only #36 on the UK albums chart, but it produced two Top 10 singles, "Kinda Love" and this song. Darius then found fame as a West End Star, appearing in the likes of Chicago, Guys and Dolls and Gone with the Wind.
  • Dr. Danesh had a second life thanks to the skills of the medical professionals, but his son wasn't so fortunate. The Glasgow-born singer was found unresponsive in his Rochester, Minnesota, apartment on August 11, 2022 and pronounced dead the same day. "Live Twice" was the last single Darius released during his lifetime.
