Songfacts®:

  • This is an autobiographical song about Donovan's early days on the road with his pal Gypsy Dave, both of whom were good friends and spent a lot of time together. Gypsy Dave later became the sculptor Gyp Dave Mills and moved to Greece.
  • Often misinterpreted as a song about homosexuality because it deals with two guys caring for each other, this is really a song about two friends going on a journey, seeking their future.
  • Lindsey Buckingham covered this on his 2006 album Under the Skin. >>>
