  • Adam Dyment is a British DJ and producer, who is better known by his stage name of Duke Dumont. This is his first single, which features vocals from teenage singer-songwriter A*M*E. It was released as a digital download in the United Kingdom on March 31, 2013.
  • A*M*E is a singer-songwriter whose music falls somewhere within the space of urban-electro-dance-pop. She was born in Sierra Leone with a birth name of Amy Kabba, and moved to the UK when she was eight years old. A*M*E was discovered by Take That's Gary Barlow and signed to his Future Records label in late 2011. Since then, she's put out buzz tracks "Ride Or Die" and "Find A Boy" as well as her debut single, "Play the Game Boy". Her first major success as a songwriter came when "Beautiful Stranger" became a #1 hit in Korea for K-pop band f(x).
    In early 2013 A*M*E signed to Sony Music's Epic Records after Barlow closed Future Records to focus on his own career commitments.
  • A*M*E revealed to The Daily Star that she was struggling with tiredness as she penned the song with songwriter and producer MNEK and Duke Dumont. "We hooked up with Duke through the internet. He was hearing what I was doing and filed over a beat to me and fellow songwriter MNEK," she recalled. "We had just got in about half an hour before and were so tired we couldn't be bothered to write a full-on song, so MNEK hummed a little hook and I did the chorus lyrics really quick, and that's how it came about."
  • The song entered the UK singles chart at #1. Dumont put the success of the track down to a resurgence of '90s house music: "This sound is a real dominant force at the moment. The cycle has come back around to the early '90s where people just want to go out, dance and have a good time."
  • This was the song that prevented "Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead" from reaching the #1 spot on the UK singles chart after Margaret Thatcher's death.
  • A*M*E was still in the process of finding her voice and the style of pop she wanted to make when she recorded this song. She admitted to The Guardian that Duke Dumont's beat was not initially a priority. "It was done in half an hour," she recalled. "MNEK and I were both really busy. We were like ... sigh, 'can we be bothered to do it?' But I did want to do a full song. Lots of people would say you can't do that with a dance track, there'll be too much happening, so we kept it simple and didn't overthink."
  • This was originally an eight-minute instrumental track with a spliced-up vocal, which Dumont had filed away. He recalled to Pitchfork: "It was a house dub: big piano chords, big drops. My manager said, 'I think this could cross over into commercial terrain, would you be willing to try more of these slightly-more-accommodating vocals?' I was like, 'There's nothing to lose, let's see where it goes.'"

    "So I took that eight-minute house dub and turned it into a four-minute pop track. A*M*E and MNEK jumped on board, and that's how the final song was done."
