Songfacts®:

  • Here, Eli Young Band remind us of the power of true love by listing some of the things that showcase the opposite of love.

Love ain't you on a sidewalk in your new dress all alone
Love ain't you calling me 'cause he ain't picking up his phone
The way you're talking sounds like he's somebody you should hate
I may not know what love is, girl, but I know what love ain't

The song was written by a trio of top Nashville songwriters: Ross Copperman (Keith Urban, Luke Bryan), Ashley Gorley (Jake Owen, Carrie Underwood), and Shane McAnally (Kacey Musgraves, Sam Hunt).
  • Eli Young Band teamed up with the Wounded Warrior Project to tell the powerful love story for the music video of military veteran Taylor Morris and his longterm partner Danielle. An explosive ordnance disposal technician with the Navy, Morris became a quadruple amputee after an explosion in Afghanistan in 2012 and Danielle dropped everything to be with him so they could face the challenges together. The clip features personal videos of Morris' rehab and marriage to Danielle.

"We first learned about Taylor and Danielle a couple of years ago, and there is no doubt their story speaks to what love is," said EYB frontman Mike Eli. "When thinking about their story and the deeper meaning in this song - how important love is and to know what love ain't - we knew the video should reflect that."
