The subject of "Nobody" finds herself ready to face, and embrace, the world on her own after the end of a relationship. The song evolved out of a chorus Harris had dreamed up. She said: "Once again, choruses are my friend. I had this machine where I could put those harmonies on and I liked the way they spread out like a horn section."
Phil Oakey recorded his vocals for "Don't You Want Me" in the studio bathroom. The recording was disrupted by guitarist Jo Callis reaching through an open window from outside to repeatedly flush one of the toilets.
