Songfacts®:

  • Released on November 3, 2017, many in the UK discovered this song when it was played on the Love Island dating reality show during a scene when Laura Anderson was dumped by Jack Fowler. It was the most Shazamed song ever to feature on the series.
  • Like all of Freya Ridings' songs, "Lost Without You" was based on personal experience, and came fully born from her subconscious. "That moment had really affected me, and I almost didn't realize until I was writing that song and felt that much emotion," she told the BBC. "I definitely never thought I'd never ever share it with anyone, so the way it's been received is really heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time."
  • Freya attended the famous Brit School, the Selhurst college whose alumni include Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis and Adele.
  • When this climbed into the UK Top 10 on the chart dated October 7, 2018, Freya Ridings became the first British female singer-songwriter in over six years to pen solo her own Top 10 UK hit. The previous time it happened, Kate Bush went to #6 on the Official Chart with "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" in August 2012, (and that was a re-release).
  • The song's popularity stateside was boosted in March 2019 after appearances in episodes of both ABC's Grey's Anatomy and CW's Legacies.
  • The song was included as one of four bonus tracks on the music compilation album NOW That's What I Call Music! 71.
