  • Geese started out as literal basement kids. The band formed in 2016 they were still in high school, rehearsing and cutting early tracks in drummer Max Bassin's Fort Greene basement.
  • The band's name has a homegrown origin; it comes from guitarist Emily Green's longtime nickname, "Goose." It's just a private in-joke that stuck.
  • The group made their label debut in 2021 with Projector, an album they recorded between school days and weekend sessions, all under a strict 10 p.m. noise curfew to keep the neighbors happy. By the time it came out, they were barely old enough to drink but already attracting industry buzz.
  • The band almost didn't survive graduation. Several members had acceptance letters to top music schools like Oberlin and Berklee, and the plan was to split in 2020. But their self-produced demos set off a label bidding war - with interest from 4AD, Fat Possum, and Sub Pop - leading them to sign with Partisan Records instead of heading off to college.
  • Their original guitarist, Foster Hudson, left in 2023 to focus on academics. He played on their early records and through the 3D Country era.
  • Frontman Cameron Winter's voice stretches from a natural bass-baritone to falsetto, and he can pivot into a talk-singing snarl that recalls Alex Turner; a vocal range that helps define Geese's shape-shifting sound.
