Songfacts®:

  • This is a bluesy cover of a Reverend Charlie Jackson spiritual. It was Kid Rock who introduced Williams to the guitar-playing evangelist. The country star recalled to Billboard magazine: "He said, 'I want you to listen to something.' I said 'Who in the hell was that?' He said he was a preacher that played the guitar. When I heard that, he said, 'I can't do this, but you can. This is in your wheelhouse.'"
  • The Reverend Charlie Jackson (1932-2006) played an especially potent brand of raw, bluesy gospel. He devoted his life to singing and preaching the good news particularly throughout Louisiana and Mississippi. Here is Jackson's original version of "Wrapped Up."
