  • Huntr/x is a fictional K-pop girl group from the Netflix animated film KPop Demon Hunters, which debuted on June 20, 2025 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon and the most-watched original title in Netflix history. In the film, the trio are pop idols and also demon hunters in conflict with the Saja Boys, a boy band whose members are secretly demons using their fame to steal souls.
  • The group wasn't intended to be a live act, but when "Golden" became a huge hit, going to #1 on August 16, 2025, they were pressed into action. Fortunately, the real-life singers in the group - EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami - were all accomplished performers. Starting with an October 7, 2025 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, they made the rounds singing "Golden," including at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve. They didn't do elaborate choreography typical of K-pop performances, but they delivered credible and rousing live renditions that were very impressive considering how little time they had to rehearse as a group.
  • Unlike Disney's Frozen where Idina Menzel is both the speaking and singing ("Let It Go") voice of Elsa, in KPop Demon Hunters there are different speaking and singing voices for Huntr/x, so EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami didn't have to do any voice acting.
  • The group members didn't know each other before KPop Demon Hunters. EJAE was part of the project as a songwriter and demo singer but earned the role as the singing voice of the character Rumi. Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami both got their spots through auditions - Nuna sings for the character Mira, and Ami for Zoey.
  • The group name is pronounced "Huntrix." This kind of stylized typography is popular in K-pop, where names like 3RACHA and 2NE1 abound.
  • In the animated version of the group, Rumi gets the center position, and that's how it is live as well, with EJAE (who voices Rumi) in the middle like Beyoncé in Destiny's Child.
  • EJAE is part of the team that writes the songs for KPop Demon Hunters, so she has credits on several from the soundtrack, including "Golden." When that song gobbled up awards she was often the one who accepted, flanked by her male co-writers. When it won for Best Original Song at the Oscars, EJAE spoke first, and when she ceded the mic to Yu Han Lee, he was abruptly cut off and the show went to commercial.
  • EJAE spent years trying to become a K-pop idol, so it was quite gratifying when Huntr/x made her a star at age 34, long after the girl group window closed. She often speaks about finding other doors to open when one closes - in her case it was songwriting. "I can confidently affirm that rejection is merely redirection," she said at the Golden Globe Awards.
  • "Golden" was the second most-streamed song globally in 2025, surpassed only by "APT." by Rosé and Bruno Mars. The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack made history as the first soundtrack to have four songs simultaneously in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, racking up more than 3 billion global streams.
  • The group is heavily merchandized, with toys, backpacks, bobbleheads, clothing and lots of accessories. A big seller is the Light Stick, which in the movie allows characters to transfer energy to the demon hunters, but in the real world is more like a $50 flashlight.
  • In 2026, Netflix announced a KPop Demon Hunters tour, featuring Huntr/x. This was a bridge too far for the metal band Demon Hunter, which had been active since 2000 and was still touring. They sued, claiming copyright infringement and explaining that KPop Demon Hunters fans were contacting them in error, and in one case even buying tickets to one of their concerts expecting to see Huntr/x and Saja Boys.
