Songfacts®:

  • This song was written for the 2023 movie John Wick: Chapter 4 and plays over the end credits. The song represents the sacrifice and dedication of the main character, played by Keanu Reeves.
  • In This Moment lead singer Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth wrote the song with Tyler Bates, a primary composer on the John Wick movies.
  • Tyler Bates was working with the band on an EP called Blood 1983 when the film's director, Chad Stahelski, called him up to float ideas for the soundtrack. Without knowing Bates was working with In This Moment, he asked about this band he heard with a lead singer named "Maria-something."

"I'm actually working on their new record right now," Bates replied, as told to Entertainment Weekly. "They are real fans of John Wick, which is really cool."
  • The song was released on the John Wick: Chapter 4 soundtrack March 23, 2023, a day before the movie hit theaters. In October, it appeared on In This Moment's album Godmode.
  • In This Moment let out some pent-up pandemic frustrations on this song and the rest of the album. "The time we had off, it created this angst and this appreciation for what we do," Chris Howorth said in a Songfacts interview. "Also, this kind of, 'I want to unleash everything.' This album was just a natural reaction for those feelings."

"This album is the heaviest album we've had in a long time, and it has a lot of frustrations that built up in me over the last few years with society and things around me, and dealing with my own mental health," Maria Brink added. "So there's definitely a whole journey of emotions in there."
