Songfacts®:

  • Irving Berlin wrote this song for a 1921 production called Say It With Music, which was the first revue staged at his Broadway theater, The Music Box. The song is about how music is a universal language; one that lovers understand. So if you're trying to say something to your sweetie, say it with music.
  • Desmond Carrington presented a music programme on BBC Radio 2 for 36 years. Initially a Sunday afternoon programme called All Time Greats, it was renamed The Music Goes Round and moved first to a Tuesday and then to a Friday evening slot which he broadcast from his home in Perthshire. His first such broadcast was Sunday, August 31, 1997.

"Say It With Music" was the programme's original theme song; Carrington played it on his last-ever broadcast of The Music Goes Round on October 28, 2016, after which he retired at the age of 90.
  • This uptempo foxtrot was also the signature tune of band leader Jack Payne, whose version was played for that final Carrington broadcast. >>>
