Cole added the subtitle, "The Sideline Story," to the title as after being signed to Jay-Z's label and waited for his debut release to be dropped, he felt like someone being on the sidelines for their favorite basketball team.
  • The song contains an interpolation of "The World Is a Place," a 1976 track performed by the soul group Rhythm.
  • The Cole World: World Tour began on August 23, 2011 in Vancouver. The song's music video shows shots of Cole on stage in a variety of different locations as well as his touring lifestyle.
