  • There's a big difference between surrendering and giving up, as many who practice meditation have learned. In this song, Jann Klose surrenders so he can move forward and step into the light. "It doesn't refer to 'losing' per se," he explained. "Quite the opposite, it's actually about winning! Winning, because there is enough strength inside to arrive at a point of true peace. A 'letting go' of baggage and a new, different approach to love, connection and self-awareness that wasn't present before."
  • Klose wrote this song with Alex Forbes, who also collaborated on his song "Sugar My." Forbes told Songfacts: "For me, 'Surrender' explores the choices we all make - Love or Fear - on the micro and macro levels, a thousand times a day.

It often seems like our world is spinning out of control, and yet my philosophy is that we each hold the key to peace in our hands and hearts. Whether it's a relationship between people or countries, it must be possible to break out of a mindset of conflict and domination, surrendering to love, forgiveness and gratitude.

I'm not saying it's easy, but at this point on the planet, it really does feel like 'do or die.' And hey, what if, spiritually speaking, there's only one of us here... and we're fighting against ourselves?"
  • "Surrender" is the lead single and title track from Jann Klose's seventh album, which he made during the pandemic with producer Marcus Dembinski. Much of the recording was done remotely - Klose never even met the bass player, Max Sternlicht.

This was a tough time for Klose (and many others as well) because it kept him from touring. He spent time in South Africa, Germany, Kenya, and the United States growing up, and enjoys the traveling that tours entail. He's served as opening act to many big names, including Rosanne Cash, Pat Benatar and Brett Dennen.
  • The music video goes behind the scenes, showing Klose and Alex Forbes writing together in Klose's apartment. It then moves on to shots of him recording the song, then performing it at Space 54 in New York City.
