• "Anytime Soon" is Jason Aldean's barroom heartbreak track about trying to drink away the memory of an ex, only to realize the whiskey isn't helping. He spends the night working his way toward last call in a hole-in-the-wall bar, but the more he drinks, the clearer it gets that he isn't getting over her.
• The Kurt Allison, John Edwards, Tully Kennedy, and John Morgan-written song taps into a timeless country archetype: nursing a broken heart at the bar and hoping enough booze will make a ghost disappear. It's territory Aldean knows inside and out. "There are two things that never go out of style, man: falling in love and relationships falling apart," Aldean told Billboard. "For whatever reason, I've always leaned into the latter."
• The title delivers the song's central twist: The whiskey isn't running out, so neither is the heartbreak. The writers initially kicked around "Running Out of Whiskey," but Kennedy pointed out the phrase meant the exact opposite of their concept. The booze wasn't running dry anytime soon, meaning he was nowhere near moving on.
  
  They also wanted to avoid overlapping with Aldean's previous drinking hits like "Whiskey Drink" (which Kennedy and Edwards also co-wrote), "Whiskey Me Away," or his Miranda Lambert duet "Drowns the Whiskey." Kennedy said the final choice just "feels great."
• The song started at a BMG writing session on Nashville's Music Row. Kennedy and Edwards began playing a minor-key chord progression right as the crew finished a different song and were packing up. Allison was literally packing his gear into his car when the new chords caught his ear, prompting him to unpack and join back in.
  
  Without a clear hook, Kennedy grew nervous as they built out the chorus. The endless-whiskey concept finally unlocked the structure. They finished a verse and chorus that afternoon, then brought in John Morgan a week later to flesh out the second verse, sharpen the barroom details, and turn an early pre-chorus into the bridge. "You come back, and it's better than you even remember," Allison recalled. "We were excited to finish."
• When demoing the track, Morgan drew direct inspiration from Don Henley's 1984 hit "The Boys of Summer," mimicking Henley's relaxed, conversational vocal delivery where he almost speaks the verses. That laid-back, half-spoken cadence proved to be a perfect model for Aldean's final vocal performance
• Aldean first heard the demo around the time of the 2024 ACM Awards in Frisco, Texas, when Allison and Kennedy played him a rough draft built around a Fender Rhodes. His reaction was instant: "I knew immediately - one listen - that we were going to cut it, and it was going to make the record."
• The most distinctive musical detail hits before Aldean even sings a word. "Anytime Soon" opens with a warm, vintage keyboard tone that reminded him of '70s and '80s country icon Ronnie Milsap, known for keyboard-driven hits like "Smokey Mountain Rain" and "(There's) No Gettin' Over Me."
  
  "I was a big Ronnie Milsap fan," Aldean told The Boot. "That song is kind of a tip of the hat to Ronnie Milsap: how it starts with the organ. I thought it was a really cool way to kick off the album."
  
  To pull off that throwback sound, producer Michael Knox bypassed digital software and pulled a real vintage Wurlitzer electric piano out from the back of the studio, dusting it off and letting it warm up. The production team blended that Milsap keyboard feel with arena-rock guitars reminiscent of Tom Petty and Journey. Steel guitarist Mike Johnson helped glue the styles together, prompting Knox to remark: "He can make a rock song sound like a country song, and you don't know why you think it's a country song."
• The track serves as the opening statement on Songs About Us, Aldean's 12th album, released on April 24, 2026. Setting off the 20-track collection, it leads straight into the second track, "Drinking About You." Both songs were written by the same four-man songwriting team and explore alcohol as an escape hatch for heartache, though "Anytime Soon" sets the mood by showing the drinker at his lowest point.
• Aldean started test-driving "Anytime Soon" live well before the album dropped, debuting it as an unreleased track on the opening night of his Full Throttle Tour in North Little Rock on January 15, 2026. It was officially sent to country radio as a single on August 2, 2026.
