Songfacts®:

  • Jennifer Nettles became a mother for the first time in December 2012 when she gave birth to her son, Magnus. This ballad finds her attempting to come to terms with the new person she is after becoming a mum. "I feel simultaneously completely vulnerable and made wholly brave by becoming a parent," she explained to Taste of Country. "It has changed the way that I live my life. Because I want to be an example for my son."
  • The second verse begins with a message for Magnus, which Nettles hopes he'll appreciate one day. "I want to be an example for my son - of authenticity and of asking the right questions and of questioning just what you think what you're supposed to do," she said.
