  • The title track to Jim Brickman's eighth album, he wrote "Simple Things" with Beth Nielsen Chapman and Darrell Brown, who both sing backup on the track as well. They wrote the song in Nashville; Brickman had the title and a working set of lyrics, which Chapman fleshed out with the line:

    After all the clouds go by
    The simple things remain


    The simple things are what can't be bought: nature, love and memories.
  • Beth Nielsen Chapman, who also co-wrote "This Kiss" for Faith Hill, is a breast cancer survivor and had just finished chemotherapy when she worked on this song. It was the first song she wrote in seven months.
  • Rebecca Lynn Howard does the lead vocals on this track. Her debut album was issued months before this was released.
  • The song hit the top of the Adult Contemporary chart the first week of 2002.
