Songfacts®:

  • Legend sampled Gabor Szabo's version of the Classics IV song "Stormy" for this track. Will.i.am from Black Eyed Peas helped produce the song and came up with the idea for the sample.
  • In this song, Legend tries to convince a girl to make love to him. The phrase "save room" is often used to let someone know a good dessert is waiting at the end of the meal.
  • "Save Room" was the first single from John Legend's second album, Once Again. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 1999, he took a corporate job and worked on music as a side hustle. A few years later, he connected with Kanye West, who worked on Legend's 2004 debut album, Get Lifted, and released it on his GOOD Music label. "Ordinary People" was the biggest hit from that album, but it also includes songs like "Live It Up" and "So High" that established him as a sensitive loverman. "Save Room" is in that vein, and it really connected with his female fans. That year, he met Chrissy Teigen, whom he married in 2013.
  • The music video, directed by Bryan Barber, shows Legend canoodling with a few different women. They each leave him until the end, when he finds one that is likely to stick around.

  • KevinI really do think it’s about An*l Though…
  • Kiarra from St. Charles, MoIn the song, some of the girls have the same flower tattoo.
  • Eugene from Minneapolis, MnI have to disagree with, Ty, on the song being about a man seeking relationships with women that don't want them at the moment. How about getting the woman in the mood for some good loving tonight? Hmm? It makes sense listen to the record. "Tonight say you'll be mine.." or "Love hurts sometimes when you do it right". Sounds like he offering the lady some good old fashioned say "pecan pie", nice, rich and smoove!!!
  • Ty from Pittsburgh, PaThis song is actually about a man seeking relationships withy women who don't want that right now.
