Songfacts®:

  • "Feelings" is a soulful ballad where Jorja Smith is looking for reasons to justify her feelings for someone who is not yet ready to be with her. She's trying to convince herself there's nothing wrong with her feelings, and that she should not be ashamed of them.

Smith wishes she could communicate her feelings to her love interest without having to say anything. She wants him to know how she feels even if he's not ready to admit his own feelings.
  • J Hus duets with Smith on the track. He raps a verse that suggests he's in a deep state of love and is willing to do anything to be with the object of his adoration. Hus isn't afraid to express his feelings, even though she may not reciprocate them.
  • This is the second collaboration between Smith and Hus, following "Nice Body" from his 2023 album Beautiful and Brutal Yard.
  • Smith and Hus co-wrote "Feelings" with DameDame, a production duo comprising Barbara Boko and Edith Nelson from Smith's home city of Walsall.
  • Smith recorded "Feelings" for her second album, Falling or Flying, which was primarily produced by DameDame. Having been based in London for a few years, the singer returned to Walsall to make the record.

"I feel like making the album brought me back home," she said. "Where you're from is where you get your powers, and that's why I'm so grateful I could make this with DameDame - they still have their roots in the ground from back home. And we had so much fun making this."
