Songfacts®:

  • "Brothers" finds Kanye West asking a close friend for forgiveness after falling out with him:

I'm sorry for all the miscues
How about I admit that I miss you
I miss the fam and our brotherhood
I just wanna make sure that my brother's good

The friends were close enough to call each other brothers.
  • The song features the former lead singer of The Gap Band, Charlie Wilson, on the hook. Wilson has collaborated with West on multiple occasions in the past, including on "See Me Now," "All of the Lights," "Bound 2" and "No Mistakes."
  • The song was co-produced by Murder Inc. co-founder Irv Gotti with 7 Aurelius (aka Channel 7).
  • Gotti is also the creator of the BET series Tales and a snippet of the track was premiered during season 2, episode 1 of the drama anthology show. Gotti told Rap-Up that West originally proposed using "Can't Tell Me Nothing" on the episode:

"I said, 'Ye, that's not special.' What's special is a brand new record. Kanye is a good guy, man. People need to know that about Kanye. He has a lot of misconceptions. He was in London and he called me. He said, 'Yo, let's do the 'Brothers' record.' He was on some brotherly love, helping his brother out. It came from a great place."
