  • This won the Eurovision Song Contest for the UK, breaking the then record for the largest number of votes and the biggest margin of victory. Even though Lordi's Hard Rock Hallelujah, which was Finland's entry for the 2006 Eurovision contest broke the record, "Love Shine a Light" is still considered the most successful Eurovision entry ever, as there were only 25 countries voting. In 2006 there were 38 countries participating in the contest.
  • Jonathan King had asked Katrina & the Waves if they had a song suitable for the contest, they immediately thought of this one, which their guitarist Kimberley Rew had originally written as an anthem for The Samaritans.
  • Don Airey, who has played keyboards with Deep Purple and Ozzy Osbourne, did the arrangement on this track.
