Songfacts®:

  • Lana Del Rey wrote this dreamy ode to youth after attending Coachella in April 2017. The songstress explained in Instagram that she as political tensions increased around the world, she experienced "complex feelings about spending the weekend dancing whilst watching tensions with North Korea mount".

Del Rey added: "On my way home I found myself compelled to visit an old favorite place of mine at the rim of the world highway where I took a moment to sit down by the sequoia grove and write a little song. I just wanted to share this in hopes that one individual's hope and prayer for peace might contribute to the possibility of it in the long run."
  • This was one of several songs on Lust For Life that was inspired by political events. Speaking to the BBC, Del Rey said: "Just being in California, it's such a liberal state, I was bombarded with the news every day. So my studio became like a think tank – during the elections it was a constant conversation with my producer and engineers and assistant engineers."

"And then obviously during Coachella, that news broke about North Korea and pointing missiles at each other," she added. "That was a bit of a rude awakening."
