Songfacts®:

  • In this song, Australian indie-pop singer Lenka simply needs a hug. After the COVID-19 pandemic made quarantining and social distancing the new normal, getting to safely embrace the loved ones outside of our households seemed like a thing of the past. She was inspired after attending a post-lockdown event at the Berry Public School in New South Wales, where her two children attend, and enlisted the choir - including her 11-year-old son - to sing on the track.

She explained in a 2023 Songfacts interview: "It was actually witnessing their school choir sing at Grandparents' Day that inspired this song in the first place. Seeing those first hugs after the Covid lockdowns, and the panic finally eased, was really heartwarming. So, I asked if we could record the kids on this new song and they were super excited. We recorded in the school library with 50 kids singing. The books, cushions and paper crafts hanging from the ceiling served as audio proofing!"
  • This is one of two non-album singles that Lenka released in 2023 - the other is the '80s throwback "Silhouette."
  • Lenka released a behind-the-scenes video that shows her recording the song at a studio in Sydney with producer Dave Jenkins Jr. (who is also her touring drummer) and with the children's choir at the school's library.
  • This arrived three years after Lenka released her seventh studio album, Discover.
  • This was released via Lenka's own Skipalong Records, a label she founded after issuing her first two albums - Lenka (2008) and Two (2011) - with Epic.
