Songfacts®:

  • "House" is the first single from London Grammar's fourth album, The Greatest Love. Lead singer Hannah Reid describes the song as a reflection on entering a new decade, her 30s. This milestone brought a newfound sense of empowerment, a desire to define her own space both literally and metaphorically. "I thought, making music should be fun," she declared, "and we're gonna make that happen."
  • The three members of London Grammar wrote the song, then joined forces with Tim Bran (of the British electronic group Dreadzone) and house producer George FitzGerald to bring their vision to life. The resulting track leans heavily on electronic elements.
  • The dizzying music video, directed by Waxxwork (Timothy Casten and Vikesh Govind), takes place at a house party. Viewers follow the journey of a housefly flitting from room to room. We're introduced through the fly's eyes to a kaleidoscope of emotions playing out among the partygoers.

"We wanted to use the fly as a catalyst and vehicle for our characters to meditate on their place in the world, and the beauty of the present moment," Waxxwork told Promo News.
  • There's also a Solomun remix of "House" available, which adds a club-friendly dance vibe to the original track.
  • "House" is a song that originated from lockdown. "It came from being in our houses, which were a boundary at that time," Reid told The Sun. "We were pitching for an advert for a very big brand, but we didn't get it. It's a song about defining yourself and rules."
