Songfacts®:

  • "Conversation" is a love letter written by LP (Laura Pergolizzi) to her former girlfriend and fellow musician Lauren Ruth Ward. She penned the song just before embarking on a tour, hoping they still had a future together.

"Conversation was the final song I wrote for my ex and it was me trying to make a last play for communicating," LP told UK newspaper The Sun. "At that time I was leaving to tour and was optimistic about things possibly working out. I knew we had to talk more and I wish we could have talked more her about it, but things happen."
  • LP co-wrote the song with Kyle Shearer and Nate Campany. They also worked together on another track from the Churches album, "Angels."

Shearer co-produced "Conversation" with Churches executive producer Mike Del Rio.
  • LP dropped "Conversation" as a single on December 3, 2021, coinciding with the album release. She also made available a video for the song on the same day showing two versions of the singer trying unsuccessfully to communicate. According to LP, the clip is "me being in two different outfits and one of me was not hearing, or not understanding, and beating their head against the wall."
