Songfacts®:

  • Bryan explained the background to this autobiographical song in a press release about National Hunting and Fishing Day. He said: "My mother's father had a tackle box that, as a child, I would go through all the time. It kind of taught me who he was as a person. The song is about the wonderful times I had together with both of my grandfathers."
  • Bryan wrote this song with Joe Doyle, whose credits include "In Pictures" by Alabama and "She Said Yes" By Rhett Akins.
  • "Tackle Box" is part of Luke Bryan's debut album, I'll Stay Me. He came late to the game, moving to Nashville when he was 25 and not releasing the album until he was 31. Bryan credits his late start with giving him a perspective he never would have seen had he become a star in his 20s.
