Songfacts®:

  • "Finally Alone" finds Mac DeMarco fantasizing about fleeing the city for somewhere mundane where he can tend "all the pretty cattle" in solitude.

"I've been on tour a lot," Demarco explained to Q Magazine. "There had been a couple of periods when I was like, 'I'm just gonna buy a house in a strange country and move away and nobody's ever gonna see me again.' So, I think it's just me kind of mulling over those thoughts."
  • The song is about seeking solitude even when you're not sure that's what you want. The track's breezy sound belies its lyrical content about isolation. DeMarco told NME:

"I've always loved that juxtaposition of cute-sounding music and then lyrics about isolation. It's inner turmoil. I think the theme of this record goes through that a lot. It's about not knowing what you want and vibing on it."
