Songfacts®:

  • This is Madonna's favourite track from the album and the one she originally wanted released as the first single. She told Q magazine May 2008: "I love Candy Shop cos it's cheeky and fun and it's the first thing I wrote with Pharrell Williams (one of Candy Shop's producers), and I feel it sort of represents the sassy side of me; the fun, sassy side of me. And I love candy!"
  • Madonna's longtime rep Liz Rosenberg told Entertainment Weekly that the Material Girl chose to stick with the sweet theme for this track and the album, because "she loves candy. It's about the juxtaposition of tough and sweetness, or as Madonna so eloquently expressed 'I'm gonna kick your ass, but it's going to make you feel good.'"
  • When Hard Candy topped the UK album charts Madonna became the first woman and the fourth act in the history of the UK charts to land herself ten #1 albums. The other three acts are The Beatles, Elvis Presley and the Rolling Stones.
