Born in Aledo, Illinois, Margo Price's music blends traditional country storytelling with rock, soul, and Americana. Her voice is often likened to Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette.
Her great-uncle, Bobby Fischer, is a veteran Nashville songwriter who has written for Reba McEntire, Conway Twitty, Charley Pride and other country stars.
She cut her teeth singing in church choirs and studying dance, theater, and Spanish at Northern Illinois University, before dropping out to chase music in Nashville.
Married to Jeremy Ivey since 2008, Margo Price welcomed twin boys in 2010; tragically, one died just two weeks later from a heart condition. In the song "Hey Child," Price recounts her struggles with depression and substance abuse arising from the tragedy. They also have a daughter born in 2019.
In Nashville, Price supported herself by working a variety of jobs, including waiting tables, installing siding, and teaching dance at a YMCA. She was a prominent figure in the East Nashville independent music scene, playing in bands like Buffalo Clover and Margo And The Pricetags with Jeremy Ivey.
Margo Price and Jeremy Ivey sold their possessions, including her wedding ring, to fund recording sessions at Sun Studio in Memphis. It paid off: the album Midwest Farmer's Daughter (2016) became one of the year's most celebrated debuts.
Price received a Best New Artist nomination at the 61st Grammy Awards (2018) and has picked up Americana Music honors like Emerging Artist of the Year and Song of the Year.
She's no stranger across the pond. Her albums have topped the UK Country chart, she's performed on Later… with Jools Holland and at Glastonbury, and earned several UK Americana Award nominations.
In 2022, Price published her memoir Maybe We'll Make It, where she details her long struggle to make it in the industry. For years, she lived hand-to-mouth, working menial jobs while busking and playing open-mic nights.
Price serves on the Farm Aid board and has been a vocal advocate for gender equality and social justice.
